Actually I am not really good at reviewing things, but this movie definitely stole my attention. I just couldn't hold my hands for not writing something about this movie. I warn you all as this may contain SPOILERS!
A Quiet Place is an American horror movie starring Emily Blunt and her real life spouse, John Krasinski. This movie was released on April 6, 2018 in the United States. If you happen to already googled this movie, you will find out that it got rated 8.3 out of 10 by IMDb. May be you just wondering why it got such a good rate (if you haven't seen the movie yet). So, I'm gonna help you a lil bit on that.
This movie is about a family of Dad, Mom, elder daughter, and younger son who lived silently in a city. They literally lived in silence as the earth was haunted by a creature that could hear any voice and would definitely take any human who making any voices. They even used ASL (American Sign Language) to talk to each other as their voices could put their lives in danger. As for this family, ASL is also their way of communication with the deaf daughter.
The conflicts were mostly about family relationship between the daughter and the father (besides the creatures that might attack anytime). She felt that her father didn't love her anymore for some reasons. She just thought that he always treated her as a child (well she's a teenager after all), he didn't let her to go out of the village for food hunting with him. He took his younger brother who was scared to death of living the village instead of asking her who would volunteer herself to help his father. As the emotions developed through the little misunderstanding between daughter and father, the family were being attacked to the very end.
Audiences were taken to the silent world as this movie barely use spoken dialogue and a very little voice for a movie. However, it does not make it got any less tension. The storyline keeps the audience to stay alarmed just in case something bad suddenly come up. For 90 minutes we were served with a dope plot, great casts, awesome acting, and (for an amateur like me) an acceptable cinematography.
In my opinion, there are so many things in real life that we can relate to this movie. Family relationship is the one thing. Sometimes children never knew how hard their parents try to make their life so much easier, even they would sacrifice themselves just to protect their children. As a child meself, it really broke my heart to watch what the father did on this movie for his children, yet it was the sweetest thing parent could have done.
The idea of the silent itself was absolutely brilliant. There were some scenes in which there was no sound at all as the director tried to put the audience as the deaf daughter. We can relate it to the real life as what if we were on her side. Being unable to hear any voices in this world was clearly not a good choice. However, on this movie, the director created this daughter character as a smart girl. Even if she couldn't hear anything, she's a smartass after all. I think it makes us respect people like her more. We can't judge people, no matter what, judging is so unhealthy for our lives.
I would say that this movie is a must-watched movie of this year so far. It is only 90 minutes (not too long or too short) though it makes every single second worth to watch. I am not a fan of horror movie at all, but this one should not leave the theater without being on your watched movie list.
